EDGEPOINT STATION
The Last Stop Before the Void
Clinging to the very edge of the Meridian Zone, Edgepoint Station is one of the galaxy's most notorious frontier outposts. Part trading hub, part pirate haven, and part graveyard for broken dreams, it is the last major port of call before the lawless, uncharted territories of the Frontier. For decades, it has been a magnet for those running from something—or toward a last, desperate chance. It’s a place where Galactic Council laws are treated as suggestions and survival is the only currency that truly matters.
At a Glance
Location:
The border of the Meridian Zone and the Galactic Frontier.
Classification:
Independent Commercial Outpost (Nominally under Council oversight).
Structure:
A massive, vertically-oriented station with 24 main levels, built over generations.
Primary Economy:
Unregulated trade, starship repair (of questionable quality), salvage operations, and a thriving black market.
Atmosphere:
Tense, pragmatic, and worn down. A place of constant hustle and low-key danger.
Governance:
A station administrator who officially reports to the Council, but real power lies with various guild leaders, crime syndicates, and corporate interests.
Life on the Edge: A Vertical Society
Edgepoint is a society stacked on top of itself, with a resident's status directly tied to the level they inhabit. The station is a mismatched assembly of architectural styles and technologies, with sleek modern modules bolted onto ancient, corroded structural frames.
The Spires (Levels 1-5): The domain of corporate executives, wealthy traders, and station administrators. The air is clean, the corridors are polished, and private security ensures the troubles of the lower levels remain a distant rumor.
The Hub (Levels 6-15): The chaotic heart of Edgepoint. This is where most business, legal and otherwise, is conducted. Crowded market stalls, smoky bars like the Nebula's Edge, and noisy hangar bays define this section. It's a neutral ground where a corporate pilot might share a drink next to a wanted smuggler.
The Bowels (Levels 16-24): The deepest, oldest, and most dangerous parts of the station. Here, the air is thick with the smell of failing life support and industrial runoff. Overcrowded residential blocks, black market workshops, and hidden gambling dens are crammed into corridors where official OSSA patrols rarely venture.
Key Institutions & Factions
OSSA (Outer Systems Security Agency): Edgepoint serves as a regional outpost for OSSA, but their presence is a shadow of its former authority. Underfunded and often corrupt, OSSA officers are more likely to be collecting "fees" from local merchants than enforcing Council law.
The Repair Guilds: A loose coalition of engineers and mechanics (like Valunara Jaren) who keep the station's ancient systems from collapsing entirely. They are the unsung heroes and the most overworked residents of Edgepoint.
Syndicates & Fixers: Real power on the lower levels is held by various criminal syndicates and information brokers. They control the flow of illicit goods, data, and contracts, operating a shadow government that the station administration is either unable or unwilling to dismantle.
Survival on Edgepoint
For newcomers, Edgepoint is a brutal teacher. Survival depends on learning its unwritten rules quickly:
Mind Your Business: Asking too many questions is the fastest way to find trouble.
Trust is a Commodity: Information is valuable, and silence is often part of a contract. True loyalty is rare and fiercely guarded.
Everything is for Sale: From a ship's transponder codes to a person's identity, nearly anything on Edgepoint can be bought, sold, or stolen for the right price.
Did You Know?
Many of the station's service bots, like the maintenance units in the hangar bays, are several generations old. Engineers like Valunara Jaren keep these ancient machines running with salvaged parts and incredible skill.
The station's famous for being a galactic urban legend due to the numerous vessels that have docked and then vanished from all official records.
Due to its position at the edge of the Holo Gate Network, high-speed data is a luxury on Edgepoint, making competitive gamers like Kai Kyros a rare and respected subculture.
