Q: What is the Orriona series about?

A: At its heart, Orriona is a character-first space opera series about a "found family." The story begins when an advanced, sentient starship named Orriona recruits a ragtag crew of outcasts from a decaying frontier station. Thrown together on a mission to recover a stolen, sacred artifact to the galaxy’s most powerful civilization, this crew must learn to trust each other to prevent a galactic war, all while confronting the ghosts of their own pasts.

Q: What is the genre of the series?

A: It's primarily Epic Space Opera with strong elements of Science Fantasy. If you enjoy vast, galaxy-spanning conflicts, rich world-building, advanced technology that feels like magic, deep character immersion, and stories about a "found family" of misfits, this series is for you.

Q: What is the recommended reading order?

A: The main series should be read in order, starting with Book One: Legacy.

Q: Who is the main character?

A: The Orriona Universe is an ensemble story with multiple point-of-view characters. While each book might focus more on certain individuals, the central "character" is the crew of the Orriona as a whole and the family they forge in the face of galactic chaos.

LGBTQ+ Representation

Q: Is this an LGBTQ+ series?

A: Yes, absolutely! The series is written with a core philosophy of normalized queer representation. Key point-of-view characters and relationships are LGBTQ+, and this is treated as a natural part of the universe.

Q: What kind of LGBTQ+ representation is featured?

A: Legacy centers on the development of a male/male (M/M) romantic relationship between two of the main crew members. The world itself is queer-normative, meaning characters' sexual orientations and gender identities are accepted without question or conflict. I try to do my best to be as inclusive and aware as possible. With so many fandoms, preferences, and styles — its hard to get everything right. But I try to be mindful as I’m writing and editing my work. I, myself, am a cis gay man that has lived both in super conservative communities and very open ones. It’s a hard world out there, and my goal is be kind.

Q: Does the story focus on "coming out" or struggles for acceptance?

A: No. This universe was intentionally built as a space where prejudice based on sexual orientation is a non-issue. The conflicts in relationships arise from character choices, personalities, and the high-stakes plot, not from societal judgment.

The World & Lore

Q: I'm new to the universe. What are the key factions I should know about?

A:

• The Axrathans: An ancient, wise, and powerful species who have served as the galaxy's primary peacekeepers for over 14,000 years. They are known for their unique bio-metal technology and their revered spiritual leader, the High Priestess.

• Second Quadrant (The Keth'Rok): A powerful, telepathic, and militaristic civilization with a long-standing rivalry with the Axrathans. They value strength and control above all else.

• The Sz'kolth: An insectoid species from ancient history, believed to have been defeated in a devastating war thousands of years ago. Their sudden reappearance is a sign that the old peace is broken.

Q: What exactly is the Holo Gate Network?

A: The Holo Gate Network is the backbone of the galaxy. It serves two functions: it's a superhighway for starships, allowing for nearly instantaneous faster-than-light (FTL) travel between "gates," and it's also the galaxy's version of the internet, providing data and communication across star systems.

Q: How many books are planned for the Orriona series?

A: The primary story arc for the Orriona is planned to be a multi-book series, with several interconnected spin-offs also in development to explore the wider universe and its characters. I’d love to do at least six novels. The first one hit 175,000 words and did some heavy lifting to establishing each crew member. Going forward, the ensemble should balance out a bit more with each book focusing maybe more on one character than another. But they are all so much fun to write!
